Pour-over without the fuss
Set up your station, settle into a rhythm and let your own tasting notes guide the next cup.
Prepare the station
Set your dripper on a stable mug or carafe with room for the full brew. Fit the correct filter and rinse it if that suits your filter and method, then discard the rinse water. Put the coffee in the filter and gently level the bed. Keep the kettle handle and cord clear of the edge of the counter.
Start gently
Pour enough water to wet the grounds evenly, working slowly to avoid spilling. Allow a short pause before continuing. Fresh coffee may bubble noticeably; that is useful to observe, but it is not a reason to chase a particular amount of foam. Keep the kettle close enough for control without touching the filter or brewer.
Find an even rhythm
Continue with small, controlled pours rather than filling the cone to its rim. Aim at the grounds instead of washing water down the bare filter wall. Note the total water amount and the time when drainage finishes. Different drippers behave differently, so judge your method by taste and repeatability rather than matching someone else’s stopwatch.
Read the result
Let the coffee cool a little, then taste before making changes. If drainage was much slower than usual, inspect the filter placement and note whether the grind was finer. Adjust one variable on the next brew. A gentle, repeatable technique is a better foundation than an elaborate pouring pattern.
